Running locally is now practical. On The CTO Advisor, a host put the new open model Qwen 3.8 to work at home the week it shipped. None of his data leaves the house. On one desktop box it solved 21 of 22 hard problems.
I run the same model on an M5 Pro in my office for a lot of our daily production. Add open source models from no-save, no-train providers and smaller models from the frontier labs, and we have cut our monthly token spend 80 to 90%.
